The Bridgewater Art Program
The Bridgewater art program serves about 550 students in grades kindergarten to fifth grade under the direction of Ms. Kate Woodstrup. The artists at Bridgewater have art class once a week for about an hour. The structure of our program follows the National Art Education Association and Minnesota State Standards with themes surrounding the areas of create, present, respond, and connect. The program strives to not only develop artistic ways of thinking and problem solving, but also to create personal works of art that tell our stories and allow us to express our feelings.
Grade 5 Masters: Students at this level of their artistic development are given the opportunity to take a more personal self-reflection avenue with their work. These students are developing a sense of their individuality as they become young adults. Art is a healthy way they can explore what makes them unique. Students develop skills that they will carry with them into their art education future. Emphases are on drawing skills, painting, color theory, perspective, artistic statements, depth artist studies, and forming a sense of identity. .
Grade 4 Apprentices: The fourth grade apprentice program is designed to give these developing artists a chance to enhance their skills with a strong focus on developing an awareness of three dimensional space through sculpture. Students will also work with painting skills, the color wheel, printmaking, and enhancing drawing skills.
Grade 3 Time Travelers: Third graders have been taking a journey back in time to uncover the origins of Art. They explore deep into the Lascaux Caves of France, are inspired by the Earth Art of the past and present, travel to the pyramids of Ancient Egypt, speculate at splendors of Greece, dive into the riches of the Renaissance, and many more as we travel across the art history timeline. Students keep a journal of the time periods studied and create projects and connections based on their learning.
Grade 2 World Explorers: Students in second grade take an artistic trip around the world exploring and developing an appreciation for different artists, aesthetics, cultures, and artworks while they build foundational skills.
Grade 1 Literacy and the Arts: First grade students will build their foundational art skills while using their work to promote creativity and literacy through speaking, reading, and writing about art. Students learn about authors/illustrators and create works of art that are inspired by famous artists.
Kindergarten Creative Kinders: The kindergarten curriculum has a strong focus on building beginning art making skills, developing fine motor capabilities, exposure to many mediums, artists, and art periods. Exploration and experimentation with art making processes makes this an engaging and rewarding experience.
As you can see we are a very busy place! Check back often for art curriculum updates!
